The Philippines is considered one of the most passionate nation when it comes to basketball. You will actually find thousands of basketball courts in our country. Basketball courts are literally everywhere, in every baranggay, in every street, in every subdivision you will surely find one. The Filipino basketball sports heroes have finally been able to become part again of the FIBA World Cup after several years of failed attempts.
The Filipinos are one of the shortest (if not the shortest) in the FIBA World Cup with only an average height of 6'3" or 191cm. What may seem as their disadvantage in height can actually be considered as an advantage in their speed, being small do really have its perks. This year we have Andray Blatche, a player from Brooklyn Nets of the NBA who plays as one of our centers. He is actually the tallest among the group.
I know that our team have a very slim chance of getting the 1st place nor even the 2nd or the 3rd considering their two-straight defeats from Croatia and Greece but I still believe that these guys deserve recognition for putting up such great games against the giants of the other contending countries. Considering that our competitors actually have seven-footers in their team which makes it so easy for them to shoot those balls our team had put up such great defense making things a little harder for them. I know that we are the underdogs in this competition but I still believe that the Filipino basketball spirit is not lost even though we have lost in 2 consecutive games I know that there is still hope because we got the best players. We got players who play fair and clean. Our Team Gilas play with pride and dignity, we do not resort to lame dramas in the court pretending to be hurt because we were punched (you know who you are) when in fact we're not.
It doesn't matter if we win or we lose as long as we know that we played fair. :)
