How to soften your polymer clay

by - October 15, 2014

If you also love polymer clay like I do then you probably experienced hard and difficult to knead polymer clays. Now if you have a budget you may opt to use branded clay softeners in the market but if you are on a budget like me and you can't afford expensive clay softeners there is something that you can use that would not require you to spend too much or better yet you might actually have this at home already. Here is how to soften your polymer clay in a very affordable way: The good old baby oil actually is a good clay softener. If you are using a rolling pin, flattening the clay after putting baby oil on it may actually make the flattening process a little tricky because it will make the rolling pin slip on the clay because it is quite greasy but rest assured that your hard clay will be soften in no time. If you want to soften a big block of clay say 100g blocks or more for instance I suggest soaking the clay in baby oil overnight in order for the oil to soften the polymer clay better. Compared to a bottle of branded clay softener a bottle of baby oil is a lot cheaper.

Hope this little trick helps! Do you know other ways to soften those hard polymer clays? Share your thoughts with us! Leave a comment below.
